even i had manna cards

Daily Trivia:
In 1981, tribal leaders in an eastern Kenyan village formally condemned the tortoise because they suspected it of causing the deaths of six people by magic. The tortoise was later freed.

The tribal leaders realised what a grave mistake it was to release the tortoise when it beat the hare in a footrace, obviously using the same magic techniques it had used to kill those six people. My brothers and I used to play Magic: The Gathering. Dylan had a Black Lotus, which everyone knows is the rarest of all Magic cards. I am pretty sure his was fake because it is not like he spent that much money on his cards. Although, if anyone took care of their cards well, it was Dylan. He put every card in a plastic protector, even the manna which were as common as water. Or bread. Get it?
He taught me how to play, and I will admit, I played for a while. Yes, I enjoyed it. But to be honest, I was more interested in deciding if I wanted a green and black deck or a red and blue deck. I could have had a green and blue deck, but I didn’t really think it prudent.

i made myself feel better

Daily Trivia
J.R.R. Tolkien was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa.

That is also where my grandfather Lib was born. His real name is Liber, which is like liberation, so my dad calls him liberation.
Hopefully we will get to see him soon. Dad is trying to get us all to go to South Africa in December, but I am not really sure if I can take the time off work, or if I can take the time out of applying to law school.
I guess I should have my LSAT scores by then, and I am hoping that I will have the rest of my applications done by then also, but knowing myself I am not sure. I sort of have the tendency to think I should just spend every minute I can at home to make sure that I do my law school applications.
Although last night I was at home all night and didn’t really do anything except knit. But I knitted a very difficult row in my shawl because it is the row where all of the cables twist, so you have to constantly slip stitches on and off the cable and regular needles. I think it is my last row of that type, because I am almost finished with the cable portion of the shawl. I have to admit, though, that I messed up a few rows back, and am seriously too lazy to go back and fix it. My mom would be thoroughly disappointed. I think it is more important for me to finish it than to have it perfect. I feel like if I went back to correct it, I would lose all motivation to finish the project, and then I would feel like a terrible person who never finishes anything.
Isn’t it nice how easily my thoughts progress from fixing a small mistake in my knitting to hating myself for everything I have ever done?

my dad licked my face

Daily Trivia
The biggest fear of chefs who cook for world leaders is food poisoning.

I think that was also one of my dad’s biggest fears for us kids when we were growing up. every time we got something to eat at a restaurant, he would say “that looks good, I better taste it just to make sure it is ok.” I think he was very afraid that it was poisoned. Actually I think he just wanted to eat some of our food. Also, he used to always lick around the bottom of the scoop of ice cream on our cones because he wanted to make sure that the ice cream didn’t drip on our fingers. My friends often remark that I am a messy ice cream eater (which they see a lot because I really like ice cream). I am unable to eat ice cream on a cone without it dripping all over my fingers because I was never taught to do it independently. This is how parents scar your psyche. I don’t really know why he was so upset about ice cream dripping on our fingers. Maybe this was also a ploy to eat ice cream. Also, he always licked our fingers and then our faces after we ate. Because he isn’t especially concerned with his own personal hygiene, I think he also did this because he liked eating the sticky mess off of our faces. Or maybe he was too lazy to get a wipe. It could also be because he grew up in Africa where they have very little water, so they have to use their saliva to clean their children.
