they like their estuaries

Daily Trivia
Argentines like to say that the Rio de la Plata is the widest river in the world. At its widest point, it is more than 220 kilometers (130 miles) across. For purists, though, the Rio de la Plata is not a river at all, but an estuary.

Muah ha ha. The Argentines are wrong! This is a post from Argentina. I am at a locutorio renting this computer´s internet time, and so blogspot thinks I speak Spanish. Actually, it thinks I speak Castellano, since that is what they call it in Argentina. Instead of having a button that says “save as draft” it says “guardar como borrador.”
Many gauchos were seen by us today since there was a desfile (parade) celebrating the Gaucho General Guemes. There were even little gauchitos riding regular horses. Also a dog followed us around town for some time today but when Paula tried to give it some of her cereal bar the dog wouldn´t eat it.
That is all. Happy Dia del Padre today and happy Dia de la Bandera tomorrow. Sean was right that every day is pretty much a holiday here.

UPDATE: Sean has been added as a label for this post since he requested it. Requests for label additions will be granted if and only if a valid argument for these additions is made.

the swiss family sloth

Daily Trivia
While female sloth will typically leave their trees after giving birth, the males of the species typically remain on the same tree for their entire lives.

That is so not like Sean and me. I like to stay in my tree and Sean likes to go to concerts in other trees. Maybe if I gave birth to a baby sloth then I would go to another tree. I guess we’ll never know because it is highly unlikely that I will ever have a sloth as a child. Although I may have a child that is sloth-like.

The animal is named after the sin, not the other way around.

When I was younger, I used to dream that one day my dad would build us a really nice treehouse like in the Swiss Family Robinson. Their treehouse had beds, mirrors, and even parrots in it. My regular house had beds and mirrors, but no parrots, and it was not in the middle of green foliage.
Also, why are they called the Swiss Family Robinson? Why are they not called the Robinson Family of Swiss Origin? Or the Robinsons from Switzerland? And don’t give me that less-words-better-title argument. It is bunk.

punch drunk

DISCLAIMER: THE FOLLOWING POST IS NOT TRUE (EXCEPT FOR THE TRIVIA), NOR IS IT INDICATIVE OF ANY LATENT DESIRES TO HURT CO-WORKERS (I LIKE MINE, SEAN LIKES HIS) OR THROW KNIVES (KNIVES ARE FOR COOKING).

Daily Trivia
Not often played today, mumblety peg is a game that involves players throwing their pocket knives at the ground, and seeing how close they can come to their own foot. If you actually hit your foot, you win by default.

I sometimes play this game with co-workers and then, instead of throwing my knife at the ground, I throw it at their hearts. Sean plays a variation of my version of the co-worker game wherein he punches his co-workers in the kidney. I think either is an enjoyable pastime for a work-a-day afternoon.

intellectuals are overrated

Daily Trivia
After earning a degree in biology from Vassar College, Lisa Kudrow became an actress at the urging of Jon Lovitz. Jon Lovitz, a family friend of Lisa Kudrow, urged her to enter acting while she was with the comedy group The Groundlings.

Oh me oh my! This is funny because not only is Sean a cousin of Jon Lovitz, but also, I am often compared to Lisa Kudrow’s character in Friends. Also one of my favourite movies is Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion which has Lisa Kudrow in it. Also she is a member of Mensa which I think is pretty telling. It takes a high degree of intelligence to play the off-beat ditsy characters that she specialises in. I know because in high school people thought I was a little ditsy and were very surprised to hear my SAT scores. This is because I got good scores. Another example of this phenomenon in pop culture is Jessica Simpson, who, despite her on-screen persona, actually has an IQ that qualifies her as a genius. You may argue with this fact, but I ask you this one question: does your name rhyme with trivia? I didn’t think so. Q.E.D.

Here is a picture of George Lucas made out of Legos.
